Three mega interests of the United States in the Middle East.
History bears witness that the ultimate powers desire their presence everywhere in the globe in one way or the other to maintain their influence and dominance. US is no exception in this case. Though we do not live in a unipolar world anymore like we lived in 1945, 1991, and then in 2003, in recent history, when US was the supreme power on earth. Instead, we live in a multipolar world with three giants on the planet as USA, China, and Russia with many others on the row to join the giants in the near or far future. The paradigms have shifted, as today’s wars are not direct, instead, they are hybrid in nature. Though it does not seem appropriate and authentic to claim that America seems helpless in Middle East but it is hundred and ten percent correct to argue that she does not have the balls in her basket as she had before.
Here are the super interests that the superpower have in the region of the Middle East.
Interest Number One: Israel
Israel was a burden on a war-torn Britain then who wisely threw the towel on the shoulders of the United Nations to get rid of another held responsibility like many others. Time changed, as the former USSR and America flexed their muscles in the political aura in post-World War second era, and soon in the 1950s, France and Britain came to know that they are no more the running giants in this aura.
The United States won over Iran and Israel, but Iran after the Islamic Revolution turned out to become a rival instead of a friend and Israel remained the sole watchdog in the region for America then. Sole watchdog in a sense that no other watchdog could serve US so well, as Israel could. Therefore, it is the United States’ number one interest to safeguard the interests of the Zionist state so that she can serve America well. Israel is surrounded by Arab states, who might be impotent to a great account but the Iranian support to certain groups and governments around Israel is dangerous for the United States and as well as for Israel. This factor makes them both interdependent and Israel in this way becomes the top priority of America in the region to ensure her presence and Israel’s security.

Interest Number Two: Containing the Islamic Republic
Containing Iran is the second priority of America in the sense that when Iran was not as influencing in the region as she is today, even then US had Israel her top priority in the region to safeguard her hook and crook interests.
Iran has a great influence on the region of the Middle East. Iran has a mega influence in many parts of the region. For instance, Lebanon’s Hezbollah is operating under her monitoring, Hamas and PIJ (Palestine Islamic Jihad Movement) are also working on her orders to contain Israel through the Palestinian land, Kata’ib Hezbollah and Asa’ib Ahl al Haq of Iraq are also working under Iran’s undeniable instructions and lastly, but not least the Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigade (a coalition of Palestinian armed groups in the West Bank. The organization has been designated as a terrorist organization by Israel, the European Union, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, and the United States) was also proud to accept orders from Major Gen. Qassem Soleimani, the assassinated commander of Iran’s Al-Quds Force. In a nutshell, Iran runs the region. This makes America contain her in the region and continue pushing Israel expanding her influence in the region as America is no more in such a position to station more troops and buy bad public opinion.

Interest Number three: Saudi Arabia
The United States is a great buyer of Saudi Oil and both the states have few interests in common as mentioned below;
Ø Both have their rivalries with Iran.
Ø Both are allies of Israel.
Ø Both are anti-Assad in Syria.
Ø Both want to dominate the region.
Even it is not wrong to argue that Saudi Arabia is an American child in the region. For proving my argument let me buy a recent incident, the assassination of Jamal Khashoggi, a critique of the Saudi government who was murdered inside the Saudi embassy in Istanbul, Turkey.
On October 2nd, 2018, Jamal Khashoggi went into the Saudi consulate in Istanbul for paperwork and never returned. Saudi authorities initially said that he had left the building. He was murdered inside the embassy, that’s what was revealed then. Saudi officials later claimed that he was killed in a rogue operation, whereas the Turkish authorities argue that the Saudi agents who assassinated Khashoggi had orders from the highest levels of the Saudi government. They also argue that he was tortured before being killed, this is how the audio recordings found inside the consulate confirm. A UN special rapporteur claimed that there was credible evidence found that the Saudi crown prince Mohammad Bin Salman and other high-level officials were involved in Khashoggi’s murder.
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo visited Riyadh in such air to bless the American child of the region. As there is nothing to surprise that power blesses power since day one of the universe. The US President Donald Trump seemed unwilling to open the Pandora box, as his such step could jeopardize US-Saudi Financial interests. Trump stated, “If you look at Saudi Arabia they are an ally and they are a tremendous purchaser of not only military equipment but other things. When I went there they committed to purchase $450 billion worth of things”. This strengthens the Saudi might to exploit those who exploit their mean means. US-Saudi alliance is a power that veined Khashoggi’s blood, like many others’ in the region. Therefore, it is rightly argued that Saudi Arabia is the interest number three of America in the child.
Though there are numbers of other interests of the United States in Middle East but all those interests revolve around these mentioned three states, like interests in Syria, Libya, Lebanon, Yemen, and many others. America could never get over Iran for a long time and this makes her an all-weather ally of Israel and Saudi Arabia.
